Workshop on Innovative Techniques in AI and ML-Dr. M. Sharmila Kumari

Feb 27, 2025 - Feb 27, 2025

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in association with the Department of Computer Applications and the IT Association, organized the workshop on "AI ML Innovative Techniques" on 27th February 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Seminar Hall 1. The session aimed to showcase the cutting-edge techniques in AI and ML and their transformative potential in modern industries. The workshop was hosted by Ms. Safwa Nisaar from II BCA, who served as the MC and delivered the Welcome Speech, setting the tone for the session. Ms. Safwa welcomed the attendees and introduced the resource person. The biodata of the resource person was presented by Ms. Fouza Fathima from I BCA. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, the Principal, officially inaugurated the workshop and encouraged students to enroll in relevant courses to further explore AI and ML. Dr. G. Harikrishnan, the Vice Principal, also shared his insights on how AI and ML could enhance education through personalized learning and real-time feedback, urging students to leverage these tools for academic growth. The workshop's main session was delivered by Dr. M. Sharmila Kumari, the Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at P.A. College of Engineering. Dr. Kumari, a leading expert in AI and ML, provided an in-depth exploration of some of the most innovative techniques in the fields of neural networks, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Dr. Kumari began by offering a comprehensive overview of neural networks, a key component of deep learning, and discussed their growing significance in solving complex problems like image and speech recognition. She explained how neural networks are inspired by the human brain's architecture, using interconnected layers of nodes (or neurons) to process and learn from large amounts of data. She highlighted the power of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in image analysis, Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) in time-series data, and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) in content creation, demonstrating their application across multiple industries. Dr. Kumari also elaborated on the fundamentals of machine learning (ML), emphasizing supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning. She discussed the practical implementation of algorithms such as decision trees, support vector machines (SVM), and k- nearest neighbors (KNN), focusing on their real-world applications in predictive analytics, recommendation systems, and autonomous systems. She explained the challenges of dealing with imbalanced datasets, optimizing model performance, and ensuring data privacy, stressing the importance of data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model validation. The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks, delivered by Ms. Ayishath Riza from II BCA, who expressed gratitude to Dr. M. Sharmila Kumari for her detailed and insightful session, to the participants for their active involvement, and to the organizing team for their efforts in making the event a success
