Participation In National Level Conference On Gender equity:A Must for sustainable development

         On 3 rd & 4th February 2025, Ms. Sunitha C, Ms. Sreelakshmi,S and Ms. Muneera Asst. Professors, PAFGC attended a two days National Level Conference on “Gender equity:a must for sustainable development” organized by UGC Centre for women Studies, Mangalore University. The conference aimed to bring together experts, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss and deliberate on the critical issue of gender equity and its significance in achieving sustainable development. The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Sameeha Bhoomi Gowda, in the presence of Dr. P.L. Dharma, Vice- Chancellor, Mangalore University, who presided over the occasion. The first session was on the topic "Role of Media in Promoting Awareness on Gender Issues"by Dr. Padma Rani, Professor and Director, Manipal Institute of Communication, Mahe, Manipal. The session emphasized the crucial role media plays in shaping public perception and promoting awareness on gender issues. The second session was on the topic "Gender-Inclusive Curriculum and Pedagogy"  by Dr. Pushpa M. She discussed key terms like gender, inclusion, curriculum, and pedagogy, providing valuable insights into creating a more inclusive educational environment. On the second day, the first session was on the topic "Women's Leadership in the Cooperative Sector: Challenges and Avenues" by Dr. Becky M. Thomas, Director, Shriram Institute of Industrial Research.. She discussed characteristics of women leadership, gender bias and discrimination, workplace harassment, and unequal pay. Next session was on the topic "Mental Health and Well-being: A Gender- Sensitive Approach" by Dr. Sojan Antony, Department of Psychiatric Social Work, NIMHANS, Bangalore. He discussed the intersectionality of gender and mental health, highlighting the need for more inclusive and responsive mental health services. The fifth session was on the topic "Integrating Gender Equality, Governance, and Sustainability" by Dr. Manjula, CEO, MilletzKart India Pvt. Ltd. The session focused on the importance of integrating gender equality, governance, and sustainability in achieving sustainable development. The final session was on the topic "Women's Health Awareness: Breast Cancer" by Dr. Mariam Anjum Iftha, Gynaec-Oncology, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeon, Yenepoya Hospital. The session raised awareness about breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection and treatment.
